The Pretty Little Liars Spinoff Looks Just as Juicy as Classic PLL

Pretty Little Liars kept fans hooked for seven years with its endless twists and turns, frothy romances, and biting one-liners that still hold up to this day. (Please see: “Bitch can see!”) Sure, the show bordered on ridiculous at times, but creator I. Marlene King knew exactly what to throw to keep audiences hooked for just one more season. More often that not, it involved creepy masks.

And it looks like she’s repeating this formula with the new PLL spinoff, titled Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. Freeform just dropped the first trailer for it on Wednesday (May 16), and it looks seriously juicy. All the components that made PLL such a hit are there (well, minus Hanna, Aria, Spencer, and Emily). There’s a preppy school backdrop, complete with hot co-eds who do lots of seductive staring; there’s Mona Vanderwaal (Janel Parrish) wielding a knife and smiling; and there’s a central mystery. Right as the 30-second teaser ends, a character named Ava—who’s probably pretty, little, and a liar—says, “Someone’s about to snap…and kill.” Oh, man! Freeform’s about to steal my entire life again!

Mona isn’t the only familiar face in this story, either. Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) is back, too. Apparently, she’s left Rosewood and is starting work at Beacon Heights University, which is where all this drama unfolds. I suppose we’re just going to…ignore the fact that PLL ended with Alison marrying Emily and having twins? The spinoff better explain this, though I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t.

Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists will arrive on Freeform sometime in 2019.
